Burgundy and Côte d'Or - Franche-Comté - River Saône - Rhône and Canal du Centre (Central France)

The Amaryllis cruises through some of the most picturesque waterways in Burgundy and Franche-Comté, including the River Saône, the Canal du Centre and Canal du Bourgogne.

Itineraries include visits to Lyon, France’s second city, Mâcon in the Beaujolais wine region, the restored Abbey of St. Philibért in Tournus, the market town of Dijon, Chalon-sur-Saône, the Côte Challonais, and Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy.

Sample a Journey
Dole to St-Léger aboard The Amaryllis

Sunday- Depart Paris by train and travel to Dijon, your departure station. On arrival, the Afloat in France guide escorts you on the transfer to Dole where the Amaryllis, and a welcoming champagne reception, are waiting.

Monday- Following a typical French breakfast, cruise down the river Doubs and the Canal du Rhône au Rhin. Enjoy a walking tour of Dole, and then relish the lovely countryside of the Franche Comté as the barge continues on to St-Jean-de-Losne. In the afternoon, visit
Clos de Vougeot, a medieval château surrounded by vineyards.

Tuesday- Market day in Dijon is an experience not to be missed. Enjoy a walking tour of the town, a visit to the Ducal Palace and the Grey Poupon mustard shop. After lunch, relax onboard and enjoy the afternoon cruise to Verdun-sur-le-Doubs.

Wednesday- Spend the morning enjoying a cruise to the very picturesque town of Chalon-sur-Saône. If you wish, take lunch off the barge, followed by a guided tour of Beaune, the capital of the wine region of Burgundy, and a visit to the famous Hôtel Dieu, Hospice de Beaune.

Thursday- After breakfast, there is a walking tour of Chalon-sur Saône, the last of the Burgundian style river towns and one of the major cities of the Saône valley. Cruise upstream and leave the River Saône by clearing the lock to enter the Canal du Centre. Relax on board or
cycle or walk alongside at the leisurely pace of the barge. Later, enjoy a guided tour of the Château de Rully.

Friday- A leisurely cruise gives you a chance to savour the beauty of the French countryside before arriving at Couches. Visit the 11th century Château Marguerite de Bourgogne, followed by a private underground wine tasting. Continue cruising to St-Léger, another quaint village along the Canal du Centre, while on board the chef prepares a memorable feast for your farewell dinner.

Saturday - After breakfast, disembark and transfer to Dijon for the return journey to Paris.
